This work systematically monitors the keys to understand applicability of two close-cycle processes recently proposed that enable regeneration homogeneous catalysts based on ionic liquids by liquid-liquid extraction. It aims at looking for more efficient CO2 conversion platforms prevent global warming. The universal character these is here demonstrated a substrate scope accounts 7 most representative cyclic carbonates literature and 17 play role catalysts. Water-based platform proves be appropriate separating hydrophilic IL from less polar hydrophobic carbonates, improving energy consumption when compared with distillation as benchmark separation approach in literature. On contrary, enhance process combined fatty alcohols produce drastically reduce reasonable lower product specifications process. Overall, extraction stands out scheme separate liquids.
